096000-4960 is supplied as a remanufactured replacement fuel injection pump. Cross-reference numbers: 096000-4960, 22100-54880. Application recorded for this part: VE Hilux 2.8L. This unit sets both quantity and timing for every cylinder. Modern engines depend on that timing being accurate to well under a degree, so internal wear that would once have been tolerated now shows up as smoke, noise and failed emissions checks. The pattern is normally cumulative: slightly harder starting, then noticeable power loss, then smoke and unstable idle. Where the drive seal has failed, diesel in the lubricating oil is the warning that should stop you running the engine. Diagnose the supply side before blaming the pump. Restricted filters, a tired lift pump or air being drawn into the suction line will produce symptoms almost identical to internal pump wear, and are far cheaper to resolve. Fitment notes: this unit must be timed to the engine, not simply bolted on. Never force the shaft to align — turn the engine over to meet it. Prime the system before cranking, fit a new drive seal where specified, and verify supply pressure from the lift pump before start-up. Running a dry pump, even briefly, causes damage that no warranty will cover. Rebuilt rather than refurbished: full teardown and measurement, worn components replaced instead of cleaned and reused, sealing surfaces restored to specification, then bench calibration and testing. The record is what separates this from a used part — we can provide the test sheet for your order. Covered by a 12-month warranty.
