Everything upstream exists to deliver clean fuel at stable pressure; this unit decides when combustion starts and how completely the charge burns. That is why injector condition shows up so directly in noise, smoke and emissions. What owners usually notice first: longer cranking, a rougher idle, more smoke than the engine used to produce, worse consumption, and occasionally a metallic knock that appears under load and clears once the engine is revved.
